The kind of God he is

I need to hear it often. I forget so quickly, turn to watch the videos playing themselves out in my mind instead of focusing on the truth.

Whether my life is smooth or bumpy. . .

Filled with days of failure or moments of success. . .

When I can feel His presence and when I can’t. . .

God does not change.

From the moment of creation, He has revealed Himself as a God who blesses. (Gen 1:28)

It was precisely this – His blessing – that he commanded his priests to proclaim over His people year after year, an unchangeable declaration to the congregation of the outcome of the atonement that had just been made. (Leviticus 9:22; Numbers 6:23-27; New English Translation notes on Numbers 6:24)

“Tell Aaron and his sons, ‘This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them:

“ ‘ “The LORD bless you

and keep you;

the LORD make his face shine upon you

and be gracious to you;

the LORD turn his face toward you

and give you peace.” ’

“So they will put my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them.” (Numbers 6:23-27 NIV)

The apostles picked up the baton and, over and over again, pronounced this same  certain blessing. “Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”

This blessing heart of the Father was embodied in the One who lived among us, full of grace and truth. Truth: “a correct knowledge of reality.” And isn’t that the wonder of the gospel – that grace is the truth which has the last word?

Nothing can ever come between us and the love of God revealed to us in Christ Jesus.
